five ACCESSORIES, an online store that grew out of its founders' desire to import handmade handbags and accessories from a Bali mountain village, now carries handmade purses and jewelry from global areas such as Bali, Guatemala, Honduras, Brazil and the US. five ACCESSORIES supports grassroots efforts around the globe to aid under-privileged children by donating FIVE DOLLARS of every handbag sold and 15 percent of all other sales to each artisan's local cause.
The five ACCESSORIES collection features handbag and accessories handmade with bamboo, coconut shells, recycled materials and other items specific to the places where the are made. The company wants to enhance the modern woman's look by offering socially conscious products that are carefully selected for their fun designs, natural materials, quality craftsmanship and affordable prices.
The company began while Christine Hutchison and her husband, Wells, were on their honeymoon in Bali. While there, they met a Balinese tour guide who told them how much difference five dollars a month can make to a family in Bali. While admiring the beautiful handbags and jewelry made by local artisans, the couple had the idea to start five, a company that embodies both their entrepreneurial and philanthropic zeal. Through its charitable efforts, five accessories is currently supporting schoolchildren in Bali, and families living near a trash dump in Guatemala City through www.safepassage.org. Additionally, five is participating in a fair trade cooperative in Honduras.

five ACCESSORIES is now featuring four cloth bag designs from the Coleccion Luna collection inspired and created in Guatemala. The handmade handbags support fair trade practices and give back to local artisans in Guatemala. Additionally, $5.00 from each cloth bag sold will go directly to www.safepassage.org to help the children in Guatemala receive an education. The designs are dedicated to the Guatemalan trade and tradition of textiles. Best described as "Bohemian Chic," the collection is inspired by the Indians and the natural resources of the country. Recycled Potato Chip Bags: A Fair Trade Project by the Women
of Honduras
Also being added to the five ACCESSORIES line are Recycled Potato Chip Bags,
created as a solution to the growing ecological damage in Honduras from
the burning of trash. These handbags are crafted from potato chip bags and
have changed the lives of this community's residents by contributing to
a healthy and clean community. The handbags come in three sizes: small,
medium and large, and the elaborate process results in either a metallic
silver or colorful design that is unique to the women's craft. Prices range
from $25-$35.
Recycled Rice Bags
Constructed of recycled Vietnamese rice bags, the messenger bags are both
socially conscious and environmentally friendly, yet styled to appeal to
today's modern customer. The company will donate five dollars from each
messenger bag or wallet sold to Ivory Coast Women and Children 501C3 in
Cambodia that endeavor to free women from the sex trade. Prices range from
$36 to $46.00.
Cloth African Handbags: Rwanda Tote
The essential tote bag. This cloth bag from Rwanda is made from local cotton.
This production of this socially conscious and eco-friendly cotton reversible
purse helps women in Rwanda earn a substitive wage. The company will donate
$5.00 to support the Women's Equity in Access to Care and Treatment (WE-ACTx),
an international community- based initiative headquartered in Kigali, Rwanda
dedicated to helping survivors of genocidal rape and sexual violence. Prices
